Invent Your Adventure

UPDATE (June 10, 2020):

State Parks thanks visitors for their partnership as we collectively enable responsible recreation that protects the health of visitors and the dedicated parks staff.

Below you will find the latest update on reservations for California's State Park System:

  • Few Campgrounds Reopened: At this time, State Parks has reopened campground sites at 29 park units with limited capacity and with new camping guidelines. The department is collaborating with local officials on a phased and regionally driven approach to increase access at park units where compliance with local and public health orders can be achieved. Click here to learn more on how you can responsibly camp in California's State Park System during COVID-19 and which campgrounds are available.

  • Majority of Campgrounds Remain Closed: Most campgrounds across the State Park System remain temporarily closed until further notice to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. All reservation holders affected by the continued closures will receive a notification from ReserveCalifornia of their cancellation via email and automatic refunds will be provided.

  • Reservations: Our goal is to reopen as many of the state parks campsites across the state as allowed under state and local public health orders. Reservations are only canceled when necessary to comply with these orders.
Whether your specific reservation will be cancelled depends on whether the campground you have reserved is being open at full capacity by the time of your reservation. If this campground is being opened at full capacity by the date of your reservation, then it is anticipated that reservation will hold. If the campground is not being reopened at full capacity by that date, your reservation may be cancelled. Keep in mind, park openings are a dynamic situation across the state so cancellations remain a possibility in all locations.

Should reservations need to be canceled, affected reservation holders will be contacted by ReserveCalifornia via email and provided with a refund. Cancellation fees are waived. Reservation cancellations and refunds will be automatic. As such, visitors do not need to take any action. However, please note that due to the volume of visitors affected, the refund process may take some time.

  • Guided Tours and Museums: All guided tours at parks and museums (including at Hearst Castle) remain suspended until further notice

  • Junior Lifeguard Programs: The 2020 Junior Lifeguard Program has been cancelled as the state continues to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. Participants that have signed up for the program are being notified and refunds will be provided automatically.

Welcome to ReserveCalifornia™

Welcome to ReserveCalifornia

Welcome to ReserveCalifornia™. With 280 park units, California is home to the largest state park system in the nation. In an effort to enhance the experience of our visitors both online and in our park units, California State Parks launched a new reservation system dubbed ReserveCalifornia™ on Aug. 1, 2017.

One key difference from the previous reservation system and the new one, is that we moved from a block or on-sale day reservation period to a rolling window. This means that you can reserve campsites and lodging six months in advance from the current date. Detailed information about this new feature and others can be found in our FAQs section of this website.

New Enhancements

Adventure of the Month

Bots: Security features were installed to reduce the opportunities for 'bots' to access reservations and negatively impact the availability of campsites and tour ticket opportunities.

Search Functions: The calendar view now gives you the option to pick available dates for next weekend, furthest arrival date, or select a date. Picking the type of rental desired has also been simplified. You now have the option to select the type of rental such as camping, group camping or hook up camping

Modifications: Our visitors can now only modify their reservations up to two times, with the exception of Crystal Cove Beach Cottages where no modifications are allowed.

Third Party Vendors: Reservations are for personal use only. Any resale, transfer, use, for profit activity, or memberships that are not approved in advance by California State Parks are strictly prohibited and will be subject to immediate cancellation without notice, refund or reimbursement. You may also not be allowed to make any reservations or open new accounts. There are currently no approved vendors to operate as third party partners.
